When you live in the Houston area, severe weather is simply a part of life. As we head into the spring storm season, it is hard not to reflect back on the impact of Hurricane Beryl and the massive power outages, downed trees, and disruptions it brought to Cypress.
But storms do not just leave behind damage; they reveal the true character of a community.
The Real Meaning of “Neighbors”
When the lights went out across the 290 corridor and the Grand Parkway, something incredible happened. The true strength of Cypress wasn’t found in government response times; it was found in driveways and front yards.
Neighbors shared generators to keep refrigerators running. Families with gas stoves cooked meals for the entire cul-de-sac. Chainsaws echoed through the neighborhoods as strangers helped each other clear massive pine trees out of driveways. In the midst of the heat and chaos, the people of Cypress stepped up to care for one another.
Our Call to be a “Shining Light”
At Royal Hill Laundry, we believe that a business should never just exist to make a profit; it must be a vessel for serving others. Our name points directly to Christ, and our daily goal is to model that standard of servant leadership, especially when times get tough.
During disaster recovery, one of the most overlooked challenges is the mountain of wet towels, ruined clothing, and smoke-scented bedding left behind after the cleanup. When homes are without power or water, the simple comfort of clean, sanitized clothes becomes a massive physical and emotional relief. We consider it a privilege to open our doors, fire up our commercial machines, and provide a safe, clean environment for our community to regroup and refresh.
Supporting the Hands That Serve
We also know we cannot do it alone. That is why Royal Hill Laundry proudly supports local organizations like Cy-Hope and LaundryCares. These organizations are the boots on the ground, providing vital resources, food, and relief to families in our local school districts when the unexpected happens.
As we prepare for whatever this year’s weather brings, let’s remember the lessons we learned during Beryl. Check your emergency kits, but more importantly, check on the people living next door to you. The greatest disaster relief plan we have in Cypress is simply choosing to be a good neighbor.
